I have come across this very interesting initiative called Jane’s Walk. Jane’s Walks are organised and led by volunteers around the world and they are inspired by the famous work of Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) who was an urbanist and activist and author of the book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities”, a key book for city planning.

As a city, you can join this network and run your local walk! Walks can connect people and neighbourhoods and create sense of place and belonging. Some SUNRISE cities such has Jerusalem, Malmo, Thessaloniki and Budapest are already in the network. Get in touch with the organisers!

Read here a nice report of a past Jane’s walk in Jerusalem: http://janeswalk.org/israel/jerusalem/janes-walk-jerusalem-2013/

In December we had our first cluster meeting for the cluster “Facilitating active modes through comprehensive convenuence (infrastructure, information, campaigns, etc.). At the WP4 meeting in Southend earlier this week, we agreed that though there are already clear interests in certain topics emerging in the co-creation process, it may still be too early to determine which clusters will be most relevant to which cities.

That being said, many city partners emphasised an interest in this cluster topic. Therefore, it may be useful to have a virtual meeting in the next month or two to check in and see how this topic is developing in SUNRISE. What do you think? Who’s in? In the meantime, we can also use this thread to share notes and small updates on the topic of active mobility in our work.
