As the year 2020 is on its last legs, SUNRISE is looking back on the developments in our partner cities. After a closer look at Southend, we give the spotlight to the Swedish city of Malmö.
During the last 12 months, the SUNRISE team in Malmö has ‘activated urban space’ by inviting citizens to actively contributing in changing the urban landscape of the Lindängen neighbourhood in the Swedish coast town in South of the country. One of the main challenges was to manage expectations of local groups. Thanks the cooperation of local citizens, first changes were visible.
Especially the new picnic tables helped to provide an outdoor meeting place during the burdensome month of COVID-19. Additional measures, like publicly accessible bicycle pumps, traffic calming measures, flower beds and much more were welcomed by the neighbourhood communities.
